Wish Me Luck?!

So I entered the Carina Editor Pitch after prompting from my wonderful CPs. Have I told you how fab they are? Well, they're fab!

And guess what? I got picked…aaggghhhh, I mean, yaaaayyy! Thing is, I’ve never pitched anything in my life (unless you count the past life where I worked for a company that sold ‘discount rejuvenated perfume’) I'm not proud, and I quit after the first day when I realised there’s no such thing as "discount rejuvenated perfume". I did sell eight on my first day though so...

I digress. Yes, so I have to pitch to Angela James of Carina Press next Wednesday, which is in (gulp) six days! I’m not (quite) terrified yet, and knowing myself, I probably won’t be until about an hour before when you'll find me cowering in a corner mumbling, "why, why, why..."

Seriously though, I’m excited because even if nothing else comes of it, I'll learn the process of pitching for the next time I decide to, er, jump of a cliff, lol.

So, wish me luck and know that any words of advice or encouragement will be gratefully received :)

  5. I had an in-person editor pitch earlier this month. And, just so you know, I'm the worst public speaker in the world -- I turn purple, I ramble, I stutter... and she still requested a partial. If I can do it, then anyone can! : ) I read Winnie Griggs' "Honing Your Pitch" available from eHarlequin. That really helped. Best of luck to you! Just remember, an editor wants a great new author just as much as you want to be a great new author. You can do it!

  6. Oh, thanks Tina. I'm sure you're that bad if she requested a partial! I took a quick look at Winnie's post but will go back and take another look. Thanks for the reminder and thanks for the encouragement!

  8. Good luck! I did an online pitch for Harlequin American, and although I was nervous, it was not nearly as bad as I'd imagined. You know your story better than anyone else. Once she starts asking questions, your answers will start rolling naturally from your tongue.

    Good luck!

  10. Thanks Sally. I read the Winnie posts last night. I'd previously thought they only applied to face-to-face pitches, but I was wrong! Fabulous find, so thanks again Tina. And everyone, if you need the low-down on pitches that's a great thread to use!
