You know the saying about waiting or a bus for a looong time, then three come along at once? This isn’t like that, ha ha. Well, only the waiting part, but finally, I’m happy to report that I’ve heard back on my manuscript! Hippity Yippity Yaayyyy!
In all the scenarios that have replayed in my mind over the last 22 months, getting The Call featured high on the list, of course, as I’m sure it does in every author’s. But my absolute second best scenario was to be asked for revisions, because let’s face it, the only other option would be a big fat, dreaded REJECTION, right?
So imagine my delight when I opened my email this morning to find a note from the editor at Harlequin Mills & Boon. I must confess I didn’t immediately jump for joy. Until I saw the little paperclip next to the subject line. I thought, would the editor send me a rejection as an attachment?
My fingers shook a little as I clicked on the email and that was when I saw the words “Revision Letter”! Cue mini happy dance. Couldn't go the full hog cos I was at work, where happy dancing is generally discouraged :(
So there is it, folks, I have REVISIONS, which means there is still hope for this ms yet! I’ll go into further detail once I’ve read, re-read and digested the 3 pages of *cough*-stinky-*cough* things that are wrong with my ms and how I’m going to fix it.
And if any veterans out there want to throw some advice my way, it’ll be happily received :)
Have a lovely weekend!
Maya
You can do it, Maya. They're not easy - having just rewritten the entirety of my partial and looking at a complete rewrite of the rest of it - I can say that without a doubt. But they will always make it a stronger story and that's what you're after. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteYay!! I'm so happy for you!! I'm more than happy to give advice on facing revisions. I've been there. And done that. And done it some more. And done it again. *g* And I had a 5pg letter with my last MS, so three doesn't seem so bad!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to you!!
Congratulations. You know what needs to be done, and you know you can do it. Best of all, you've used the time during this loooong wait to grow your writing, so you also know thet you can deliver a far better version of this story now than you could 2 years ago. Can't wait to read it!
ReplyDeleteSo cool. Really happy for you, Maya. Imagine, an editor attaching an R. what a nightmare that would be!
ReplyDeleteJackie, thanks so much. I've already learned so much from reading about your own journey with partials, so thanks for that!
ReplyDeleteMaisey, yeah, I've learnt a lot from you too and still learning, in fact! I just might tap you for some advice ;)
Thank Romy, your confidence in me helps a whole lot, I tell ya.
Thanks so much Sally. Don't know what I'd have done if it'd been an R! Gone on a year-long rant, I expect!
You can do it, Maya.
ReplyDeleteForm a plan of attack and do it and if any crows come flying, the minxes will shoo them away.
Sri.
Thanks Sri. It's slowly coming together in my mind. Hope it translates to paper just as well, lol!
ReplyDeleteGo Minx! :-)
