Monday Funny

Just to cheer myself (and everyone in the UK who had the misfortune of watching the England v Germany match on Sunday) up, I thought I'd post some funnies:

Here's another, because no one can cheer me up quite like Joey...

And just to make this even remotely writerly...

Have a great week.

Storyboarding - The Short Version

I'm always so envious when I see other writers going to elaborate lengths to plot, picture, graph and colour their way into their stories. To be honest, it makes me feel slightly sick - in the "good grief, why can't I do that before I start my stories/is this why my stories are so crap?" kind of way. Feelings of gross inadequacy have overwhelmed me when confronted by such scenes resulting in massive consumption of wine and/or chocolate.

But if there's one thing I've learnt in my (mostly) sober writing journey, it's this - Everyone does things differently. For me, it's:

Hero
&
Heroine

Castle

In case the excruciatingly short storyboard didn't give you a clue, this is how it works:

"get an idea=>play the 'what if' game=> find hero=> find heroine=>find location=>start writing".

Right or wrong, that is the way I've been most comfortable writing. I think it's the "unknown" that makes it a thrill to write, although sometimes I wish that unknown wouldn't involve forgetting my hero's eye colour or wondering whether the heroine was a blonde or redhead in chapter four ;). But, alas, after wasted time "exploring" storyboards, it's time to own up - I'm Maya and I have no idea how to storyboard.

I know there are writers out there who will make me feel even sicker with envy than I do right now, but it's okay, you can still share...xx

Revisions Are A Go!!

Yayy! I'm very happy to report that I heard from the ed on my revised synopsis last week. Overall she's happy with what I've done (or propose to do). There were one or two changes she wanted me to make but they are totally doable, so I'm very excited! I'd hoped to start the ms ripping this weekend but, alas, sick daughter got in my way (cheeky child!).

It wasn't all her fault though. Got stuck into second book of the Milliennium series - The Girl Who Played With Fire - and wow, I just couldn't put that baby down. I'm literally pages from finishing and it's absolutely brilliant. If you get the chance to read it - do!

But back to the subject at hand and sorry for digressing, I'm pschyed about this ms again and really happy I didn't give up on it. Hopefully, I can make it a better, stronger ms and who knows, I might also learn something or two in the process. Challenging oneself is good, if a little scary. I'm also a little scared that I'll be subbing the revised ms to a new ed once it's done (the ed I mentioned earlier is leaving HMB, *sob*), but I guess I'll worry about that once the time comes, eh?

Now...who's going to RWA Nationals, RNA?? I'm hoping to meet up with a few of the Minxes at the RNA Conference so I'm very, very excited!!! Would love to hear what everyone's been up to before I disappear into the revisions cave, so dish!
